The Benefits of Dash Cameras In A Rhode Island Car Accident

"Hi, I'm Chris Russo, managing partner here at Kirshenbaum & Kirshenbaum. Today I want to talk to you about something different—technology and how it can impact car crashes.
There's a lot of talk about how technology can cause car crashes. Don't be on your phone. Don't be looking at those big screens we have in the car now. Pay attention when you're driving. All very good advice, but there's one piece of technology that can actually help in a car crash, and that's called a car dash camera.
Let's face it, car crashes happen in an instant, a blink of an eye. It's hard to recall some crucial details of a car crash. What do the cameras do for you? They capture real-time evidence. They capture how the crash happened without you having to recall all the details. These videos are clear evidence of who's at fault in the crash.
It's also a protection against—I'm going to say it—liars. There are people who just cannot take responsibility for a crash and will not tell the truth. There are others who, I'll say, they just recall the facts much differently than you. The video will call them out. The video will recall the details you don't. Where exactly were your tires on the road? When did you turn? You can't possibly know that information, but the video does it for you.
What else does a video do? It enhances safety for everyone, including you. That's right. The video isn't always recording them, it's recording you. So you have to remember, if you do anything wrong, that video is going to capture that too. And maybe, we hope, when you realize you're being recorded, maybe you're going to be a little more conscientious of how you're driving.
I've been practicing now for 33 years. I've seen just about every fact pattern there is for car crashes. I've been involved in some that there is no doubt in my mind: Without that video evidence, the plaintiff would never be able to win their day in court because people would have heard the story and said, 'No, that just sounds too outlandish. There's no way the defendant crossed over a double line into oncoming traffic to pass you.' Yet the car camera video exists, and that exactly is what happened. That's why they won.
