After alerting the police, it is vital that you:

Take photos and videos for evidence.

The crash scene contains important evidence of negligence, all of which might be swept away in the hours after a crash. Take photos of the damage to all vehicles, location indicators (such as landmarks or mile markers), and the positions of the vehicles. If it is too dark for photos, begin recording a video and narrate as many details as you can remember.

Get the trucker’s information.

You will need the trucker’s details to make a claim against the trucking company’s insurance carrier. Be sure to ask for the driver’s name, phone number, commercial driver’s license number, license plate number, and insurance policy details. If it’s not safe to speak to the driver, wait until the police arrive, and ask for their help with these details.

Get medical treatment right away.

Not only is immediate medical intervention good for your health, it creates documentation that you were hurt as a result of the crash and shows the extent of the injuries you suffered. Without prompt medical attention, the trucking company’s insurer may argue that you were not seriously hurt or even claim your injuries were caused by something else.

Speak to an injury attorney.

A truck crash attorney knows how these cases progress, can negotiate with an insurer on your behalf, and obtain maximum payment for your losses.
