Will I be entitled to alimony in my divorce?

In Rhode Island, alimony is intended to be rehabilitative in nature. The court looks at the needs of one spouse and the ability of the other spouse to pay. Other factors may include the length of the marriage, the health of the parties and the contributions each party has made to the marriage, both economic and non-economic. For example, in a marriage of fairly long duration where one party focused on raising the children and managing the household, the case for alimony is stronger than in a marriage of shorter duration where you and your spouse both worked outside the home.
